Facts and FAQs

Q. What is a Healthy Building?
A. A holistic design takes into account a great many interrelated factors. The key to this is the 'feel good' approach which starts by looking at your lifestyle and how you will use the building. How will you use the rooms in different seasons, and at what times of day? Ultimately, everything affects everything else and so must be looked at as a whole. The pattern of energy consumption relies both on the orientation of daily activities with solar paths in addition to the insulation ratings and building materials.

Q. Can ‘Happy Spaces’ advice and consultation apply to all aspects of life?
A. We and our lives - the way we connect, learn and give, all are easily influenced by the spaces we occupy. Spaces provide a connection between mind and cosmos. They reflect our consciousness and communicate with our feelings and thoughts. So, they can bring us together and also separate us from each other. By using powerful tools to positively alter the dynamics of these spaces, we alter our reality. The way we think, behave, perform and make decisions gets very easily affected by the collective consciousness of the new, transformed space.

Q. How can Bio-Baulogie methods be used?
A. The studies include application of construction practices for healthy, natural homes and workplaces; freeing indoor toxins, indoor pollution and electromagnetic radiation to enhance user well-being and holistic interactions to regenerate sustainability.

Q. What does living in harmony with nature mean? Where does energy flow from?
A. It means understanding the laws of nature and creation - the primordial forms of circles and squares in architectural language. The very first law of nature is - 'Motion is always cyclic - never linear!'  Energy flows from the sun - the east. So, follow the sun. Rise up with the sun when its radiation is positive with ultra-violet rays helping the brain cells to work their best. Spaces oriented to align the main activities with the sun makes an individual grow.

Our  body ’s  response  to daylight is another  important clue as to how we can harness the power of biophilia. Daylight affects  both our  eye functions  and  our  inherent  circadian rhythms. Light therapy  works  by exposing the retina to specific wavelengths of light to treat imbalances of circadian rhythm —the daily cycle of hormonal activity observed in many
living organisms. That balance is partially tied to the changing color of daylight over the course of a day. Morning light is yellow, becoming bluer in mid-day and shifting to red in the late afternoon. Exposure to natural light serves to balance our hormonal levels of serotonin (linked to our mood) and inhibit the production of melatonin (used to regulate sleep). When there is an imbalance of serotonin and melatonin in our bodies, our sleep-wake pattern is disturbed, which in turn inhibits our neurological and immune system functions. To enable our bodies to reach an optimal hormonal balance, natural daylighting provides the greatest amount of lux, or unit of luminance, and the specific wavelengths of light needed by the  human  body to establish  and  maintain the  serotonin-melatonin balance. Sunlight on a  clear  day  is 500 to 1,000  times  greater  than artificial lighting (Boyce, 2010). This is an important consideration while designing indoor environments to incorporate more natural light. These explanations of nervous system activity in mankind provide some of the fundamental physiological value of biophilia. Unfortunately, most people are unaware of the neurological effects of nature deprivation as we interact less and less with nature on a daily basis due to the rise of a lifestyle led mainly indoors.

Q. Space planning and adaptation ides - why and how can they help?
A. Space planning needs to be led by what the client ultimately wants to achieve. The Projects team provide space planning advice, together with the related procurement and design facility for furniture lead projects.

Q. Why are rest and activity areas important?
A.  "The best advice you can ever give or receive is to be yourself." In today's spiritual supermarket, ask yourself just one thing - do you get to feel that feeling to remain yourself?  Does any place ever feel like a 'deep breath'?  Follow some simple rules to check your home or office. We help you to define rest and activity areas and compare the results with the daily schedule of the occupants. By balancing the distribution of rest and activity areas, you are signalled to pause and go into deeper meditations in minutes and search for the treasures that you already have within yourselves. This is the secret of space which has the power to quieten the mind. So, even in the midst of the greatest silence and solitude (NON-DOING), there is intense activity and in the midst of the intensest activity, we can find the silence and solitude of the desert. This is 'Yoga of Architecture'.

Q. Why is bed placement most important?
A. Sleep is meditation and best growth happens when we connect with our sub-conscious. There is nothing like a good night's sleep - our bedrooms, location of beds and the direction we face plays a vital role in our health. Even the design of hospitals and the orientation of beds has so much to do with healing.

Bad sleep 'dramatically' alters body. A recent BBC article point referring to the journal PNAS points out poor sleep can have a potentially profound effect on the internal workings of the human body by UK researchers.
Vedas - the Sanskrit word for wisdom from the earliest literary record of Indo-Aryan civilization have a few tips to sleep: Research has also shown that sleeping with our heads to the north affects our bodies at a micro level hindering restful sleep and healing, without us realising it. Brain cells are sensitive to magnetic field orientation and our feet pointing southwards help with the downward flowing frequencies.
  • Sleeping on the left side helps digestion. It promotes the functioning of the right nostril and is good for a person. The right nostril heats and activates the body.
  • Sleeping on the right side is relaxing, and it activates the left nostril, which cools and relaxes the body.
  • Sleeping on the back is disturbing. It activates both nostrils at the same time, which produces disease by encouraging the vital energy to leave the body.
  • Sleeping on the stomach disturbs everything. It causes disease by obstructing deep, healthy breathing.

Q. Why are Colours in buildings so important?
A. Colours impact our lives in more ways than one. Colours of the sky, the trees and the flowers bring us closer to nature. Colours are in all seven forms of art, colours play a key role in brand recognition and then there are the colours of the rainbow and so on. Each colour carries with it a specific memory, a feeling and a power to influence.

Q. How can a space be linked with health of its occupants?
A. We are products of our environments while the spaces in our house or office work like the spaces in our body. Our health on all levels, from physical to psychological is the result of the perceived reality around us.
